These awards are organised by Engineers Australia, the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers in the country. Engineers Australia has over 100,000 members spanning all disciplines of the engineering profession.

These awards have been set up to recognise outstanding engineers who have made noteworthy contributions to the community, the industry, the profession.

The entry with the highest score will receive an Apple Watch (38 or 42mm Space Black Stainless Steel Case with Black Sport Band). In case of a tie, the judging panel will make the final selection.


Awards criteria

The awards are open to all engineers working in Australia and Australian engineers working overseas.

You do not need to be a member of Engineers Australia to participate in these awards.

Any technology, project or product mentioned must have been developed, commenced or completed during the period 2014-2016.

Engineers may self-nominate or be nominated to these awards.

For the Young Engineer category, entrants must be 35 or under on June 30, 2016.

Individuals may submit multiple entries.

What are the judging criteria?

Each entry will be judged on its own merits. Judges to consider the following aspects when providing an overall score out of 20.

  • Engineering breakthrough
  • Level of innovation
  • Environmental benefits
  • Project management
  • Benefit to the community
  • Benefit to the organisation
  • Benefit to the engineering profession
  • Challenges overcome

1. I can't enter my innovation because of confidentiality issues with my organisation. What do you suggest?
You can request that proprietary details of your innovation not be published. The information you provide can be broadly descriptive. Avoid specifics that may cause concern with your company.

2. What is the deadline?
The entry deadline for Australia's Most Innovative Engineers 2016 has now been extended to Friday 11 March 2016. If you have any queries, please contact the Awards Coordinator at innovativeengineers@mahlabmedia.com.au.

3. When will I know if I win?
Australia's Most Innovative Engineers 2016 will be announced in the July 2016 edition of create magazine and on www.engineersaustralia.org.au. Our staff will contact you in April 2016 to confirm any details about your project prior to publication.

4. Will I be required to provide additional information?
Entrants may be contacted for additional information, interviews and photographs.
